Yorkshire Beardsmen Day

For some time now we have been talking about a meet that was less like a pub crawl and more of an event. after much discussion, we have chosen the beautiful village of Flockton to host this.

Flockton is located well for visitors being half way between Huddersfield and Wakefield, not far from Dewsbury and Barnsley to enjoy the bearding and the scenery around the area.

Flockton Infomation

It is described in guidebooks as a village `halfway between Huddersfield and Wakefield’.

It has Wakefield postcodes and phone numbers, but is part of the Kirklees Council area and has a cricket club that plays in the Huddersfield Central League.

So people living in Flockton, as well as visitors, might be forgiven for being somewhat confused as to whether they are Huddersfielders or Wakefielders.

There is similar confusion surrounding the identity and origin of settlement of the village.

The name Flockton is of Scandinavian origin and is believed to mean Floki’s farmstead. This suggests that Flockton was first settled by the Vikings who came to this country some time in the 10th century.

So whats the plan? well, we want a day of fundraising for Prostate Cancer UK and Calm. We will be meeting up at 12:00 as usual but this time we will have a food eating competitions to entertain us before we make a short walk to the next pub. Here we will have our 1st Yorkshire Beardsmen Beard Competition that’s right you have seen our members grace the internet/Beard competitions now its time for us to host one too.

12:00 Meet up at Jacks Craft Ale House (Drinks and Food Comp)

Perfect pints, home-cooked grub and a warm welcome to all – that’s exactly what you’ll find at Jack’s Craft Ale House & Diner, a cosy village pub in Flockton, West Yorkshire.

Formerly the George & Dragon, our pub has been welcoming locals and visitors since 1485. One of our most famous visitors was King Henry VII who often frequented on his travels up to the Yorkshire Dales. Nowadays you’ll find our busy pub filled with locals, visitors and families all enjoying good quality pub grub.

Full of character and charm with wooden beamed ceilings and two real fires, there are plenty of cosy corners to nestle up into with a hot drink. Or on those rare sunny days we have a beer garden for enjoying those perfect pints out in the sunshine.

We look forward to welcoming you soon.

Prostate Cancer UK

Ignoring prostate cancer won’t beat it
Prostate Cancer UK has a simple ambition – to stop men dying from prostate cancer. Through shifting the science over the next 10 years to focus on radical improvements in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and support, we will stop prostate cancer being a killer.

The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is an award-winning charity dedicated to preventing male suicide, the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK. In 2015, 75% of all UK suicides were male.
